A Silent Voice is a coming-of-age, redemption, and psychological drama film that discusses bullying, disability, mental health, redemption, relationships, and recovery. Shoya Ishida, former bully, seeks forgiveness from Shoko Nishimiya, a young, deaf woman that he tormented when they briefly shared a classroom in elementary school. Shoya wants to redeem himself before he takes his life into his own hands, but ends up attempting to befirend Shoko instead. As they reconnect with prior classmates, secrets are revealed, forgiveness is sought, and characters attempt to take the final steps to take their lives.
